Netball New Zealand (NNZ), netball's national sporting organisation, has the responsibility for leading the development of the sport throughout New Zealand.  Netball has a proud tradition of widespread participation and sporting excellence from grassroots Netball through to the Silver Ferns.

Through its role of developing and managing national programmes for participation, coaches, umpires and officials, NNZ aims for Netball to continue to be the first sport of choice for New Zealanders.  Netball New Zealand works hard to support Netball's five zones and 83 Netball Centres who deliver the game to its 145,000 affiliated members and 350,000 plus people who participate in the game annually across New Zealand.

Reporting to the Head of High Performance, the primary purpose of this role is to work across the Netball high performance system to grow and develop high performance environments which produce world class netballers. This includes the management of national campaigns below the Silver Ferns providing national oversight and leadership of people and process. You will oversee the best possible athlete support structures and delivery across all NNZ national programmes below the Silver Ferns, as well as working with Zone staff to ensure best practise in the development and implementation of zone performance programmes. You will need to work closely with Silver Ferns coaching and support staff to ensure systems and performance standards are embedded through the athlete pathway.

Applicants must have a proven track record of leading in a high-performance context as either an athlete, coach or service provider, and hold a relevant Sports Science, sports management and/ or coaching practice degree, preferably to post-graduate level.  Strong stakeholder management and interpersonal skills that generate mutual trust and respect are essential. An understanding of and experience working in Netball is desirable but not essential.

This position is for a fixed term of eighteen months, funded through High Performance Sport New Zealand’s Women in High Performance Sport Residency Fund.

Women in High Performance Sport Residency Fund

High Performance Sport New Zealand’s Women in High Performance Sport Residency Fund is to accelerate highly capable and talented women into high performance leadership and coaching positions.

The Residency Fund will establish a diverse cohort of talented, capable, future female leaders and high-performance coaches through offering 18-month, fixed term employment opportunities within national sporting organisations (NSOs) high performance programmes through a competitive funding and recruitment process.

The Resident will also have access to additional professional development support through HPSNZ’s Women in High Performance Sport pilot project. This includes participating in a high-performance sport focused women leadership residency programme, mentoring and networking opportunities, and a $10,000 professional development budget to support the delivery of their approved Professional Development Plan.

In order to be eligible for a Resident position, applicants must satisfy the below criteria:

  • identify as a woman;
  • be New Zealand citizen or have been granted permanent resident status; and
  • be able to commit to the initiative for the full 18-month program.
