The Netball Northern Zone have two BEKO teams, the Northern Comets who sit under the Northern Stars and the Northern Marvels who sit under the Northern Mystics.

The Netball Northern Zone is pleased to announce that Ripeka Pirie has been appointed as the Head Coach for the Northern Marvels BEKO team in 2018.Ripeka played representative netball for Netball Waitakere and Netball North Harbour.    In more recent years she started coaching junior netball for her daughters team.  Upon retiring as a player she began coaching premier club netball for the Shore Rovers Netball Club, coaching them to a premiership title at Netball North Harbour in 2015.  In 2017 she was an Assistant Coach for the Northern Marvels.  Ripeka is engaged in the Netball New Zealand Coach Development pathway, the Netball Northern Zone Elite Performance Programme and has a tertiary qualification in Sport Health and Recreation.

BEKO Head Coaches Update

In 2016/2017 the Head Coach role for the Northern BEKO Netball League teams, the Northern Marvels and the Northern Comets were advertised as a two-year cycle following a comprehensive review after year one.   Over the past few months we have worked through a this process and the outcome is as follows: 

Northern Comets:  Vicki Morgan has been offered the role of Head Coach of the Northern Comets for a second year and we are pleased to announce she has accepted.  I would like to congratulate Vicki for her reappointment and acknowledge her long-standing contribution to netball in the zone, particularly within the Counties Manukau region. 

Northern Comets Assistant Coach: Katherine Henry has been appointed as the assistant coach for the Northern Comets. Kathy’s most recent netball coaching has included: assistant coach Northern Marvels 2017; Head Coach Waitakere Under 19s, 2014-2016; Te Raki Paewhenua Poitarawhiti Under 19s 2014-2016, as well as coaching premier club and secondary school teams.  Kathy has completed the Netball New Zealand Performance Coach qualification and has tertiary qualifications in sport coaching and business.

Northern Marvels Assistant Coach: Michelle Parsons has been appointed as the assistant coach for the Northern Marvels.   Michelle’s most recent netball coaching has included: assistant coach Northern Comets 2017; defence coach St Kentigern’s College Premier 2016-2017; and Head Coach Auckland Under 17/1s, 2015-2017.  Michelle is on the Netball New Zealand Coaching pathway and has a Masters in Sport Coaching from the University of Queensland and is senior sport lecturer at Manukau Institute of Technology.  Michelle also has experience coaching athletics and cricket.

Netball Northern Zone is delighted to announce the Northern Zone BEKO Team Managers for 2018.

Northern Marvels Team Manager is Daniel Short.   Dan was the team manager for the Northern Marvels in 2017.  He is an experienced manager having managed local, regional, national and international teams across a variety of tournaments and campaigns in the past few years.  Dan works professionally as a manager of multiple staff.

Northern Comets Team Team Manager is Bobby-Jo Buchanan.  Bobby-Jo has experience as a senior club and age-group representative team manager for Papakura Netball Centre.   Over the years she has also volunteered her services to netball as a coach and bench official.  Bobby-Jo works professions as an Operations team leader.
